PROUD Warrington family of Pete Boardman present cheque for £2,350 to the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.

Mr Boardman, 70 who died on 22 January at his home in Woolston had received three weeks of treatment between July and August 2007 at the specialist radiotherapy unit on the Wirral.

His wish was that donations be given, to further progress the research into brain tumours being undertaken at Clatterbridge.

Pete’s wife Wendy Boardman said: “The kindness and generosity shown by his friends and family is a clear testament to the impact Pete had on many lives.

“He felt passionately that any monies that would normally be spent on flowers should go alternatively to where it will be of biggest benefit.”

Mr. Boardman was past president of the Burtonwood Association and Warrington Photographic Society.  Although he had to relinquish his active involvement in these organisations due to ill health, he kept a keen interest in their work.

The cheque was presented to Deborah Fearns who works on the fundraising team at Clatterbridge.

Wendy said: “Pete was always a fit and able bodied man who had never spent a day in hospital.

“It was only when he was diagnosed with his tumour that he realised how important the work of a specialist team, like those at Clatterbridge is when faced with a terminal illness.

“As a family we are thankful to them for their care and support, and to all of those who made their love for Pete clear with this overwhelming donation.”
