Glazebrook Camp Theatre This may be a bit off topic but did anyone visit Glazebrook camp whilst serving at Burtonwood? Glazebrook camp was one of a number of sites used by the Royal Navy for training purposes. These sites were collectively known as HMS Gosling and the site at Glazebrook was also referred to as HMS Aerial 2. Little has been written about HMS Gosling, presumably because it had a short life and was vacated at the end of the second world war. The exceptions being RAF Croft which served at a transit camp for the USAF and Scotia North used as family housing in the 1950s. Glazebrook is a village on the eastern side of Warrington, between the village of Culcheth and Cadishead/Irlam. Although there is no known official link between Burtonwood and Glazebrook there may be a social connection. Any ideas?

A poem from Jeanette Land Jeanette Land met her husband Don whilst he was serving at RAF Sealand and now lives in the US. After a return visit to the UK in 1962 she was moved to express her thoughts in prose. You can see her words on the members page or by clicking here |
