PHILADELPHIA – OCTOBER 2006

Go ahead and lock it into your diaries, Oct 3 thru Oct 7 departing on Sunday, October 8. The hosts are GEORGE AND EDNA LOOMIS at

loomisg@comcast.net

Reservation forms are this web site and the next Burtonwood Times.

Venue is HOLIDAY INN, HISTORIC DISTRICT, in the centre of PHILADELPHIA .

The hotel requests that you make your reservation by phone or on-line. They do NOT like fax or letter form.  This year we are not issuing a form for this reservation but only a notice in the middle of this edition to guide you.  Reservation code is BUT. Make sure you reserve under this code to get the room rate and we know who you are.

Room rate is $105 per night plus tax but including breakfast, and is available two days before and after the reunion, not bad for a city centre hotel within walking distance of many historical

attractions.  Parking is available at $5.00 per day

The hotel has all facilities including parking, elevators to all floors and rooms, and what you would expect from a city centre hotel location.

The programme allows plenty of time to view the city but starts on Wednesday with a City Tour so we can all see the main tourist and interest areas and then we have time to explore them on our own.  There is a tourist tram which stops near the hotel and will take us to all attractions.  Among the places to see are Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, Carpenters’ Hall the oldest trade guild in The US, Cathedral Basilica of St Peter and Paul, Battleship New Jersey Memorial and much more.

As usual we have a Hospitality Room set up for the entire reunion, this time it is large.  There will be a BX selling T-shirts, jackets, books, our new Military Challenge Coins etc.  The first night (Tuesday 3 Oct) will be a Welcome reception with details of the week, speeches and entertainment and a special welcome arranged for first time attendees – especially to make them feel welcome and part of the family.

Another trip and evening entertainment is planned for Friday afternoon and evening plus the Board Meeting on Thursday morning and the General Members Meeting on Friday morning.  At this meeting we discuss and vote on our Board of Officers, future reunions, changes in the constitution, etc.  There will be reports from the President, Treasurer and from the UK .  All full members are permitted to stand for election as an Officer but must be proposed and seconded by a full member.  All nominations will be put forward and allowed to present themselves before the vote.  There will be eight Board members who have to stand down  as all were extended at Shreveport when we could not have our General Members Meeting, it is up to them if they wish to stand for re-election.  Those up for re-election this time are George Nelson, Ike Iwanowski, Ed Mastrianni, Phil Kroper, Jim Ruel, Darrell Freese, Jean Hall and Jim Bentley.  As noted elsewhere a future Reunion is planned at Sacramento .

We always have a great time with old friends re-living their time back in Warrington , Manchester and the UK .  Aldon will present a visual display of events back at Warrington, an update on the Heritage Centre, memories of the Southport reunion and something on the history of Burtonwood to remind us what we are celebrating, remembering and either loving or hating!

Please bring your memorabilia to share with the others.  Bring photos, orders, movement orders, and magazines – anything relevant to your time at Burtonwood and in England .

Don't forget we have a raffle and need small gifts for this.  Normally we have a great laugh with some fun and unusual gifts.  The guide is no rubbish, nothing offensive but something you would be pleased to receive.  Such things as toiletries, books, ornaments, calendars, tea towels etc.

A reminder that the HOSTS are GEORGE AND EDNA LOOMIS.  Edna served with the 59th Air Depot Group and NAMEA, Header House Branch 1, High Value Unit – Supply Group between 1954 and 1957.  They are at 118 La Cascata, Laurel Springs , NJ 08021, phone (856) 435-0472, e-mail loomisg@comsact.net
